The Release Project
I suck at finishing things. I’m not sure if its because I get bored of the project I’m working on by the end of it (my mind leaping ahead to the next project), or if I’m afraid of being judged. In any case, I tend to take things to 99% and wind up not quite dealing with the last 1%. I really dislike the last 1%.
So in the case of music, where no one is compelling me to finish, it results in a fair amount of unreleased back catalog.
I am going to take a stab at addressing that this summer. I have identified 3 recordings that I have essentially not released and I’m going to put them out there. Hope you like them.
The goal: I will release one new recording once per month over the next 3 months. I’m not going to be too precious about this - this is “warts and all” recordings, there are little irritating imperfections in most of these mixes that will continue to piss me off, however I’m not going to let that stop me.
I will probably use BandCamp to manage the recordings, and then see about iTunes etc. Anything that is relatively low maintenance as far as distribution will be considered. I will probably also attach a Creative Commons license to most or all of the work.
So there: I’ve made the promise in public, now I have to follow through.
